Bernie Wrightson | RBCC #125 cover | It was a good day when I got this piece. I've always wanted it, and it's quite comical (at least to me) that I am now the owner. This is an exemplary piece from Wrightson's tenure as Master of the Pen! |
Bernie Wrightson | Frankenstein comic page | This is the lone page that Bernie did for the proposed comic adaptation of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. You can see parts of this page published in A Look Back. Man, this has got to be one of the finest drawn comic book pages ever! I can only imagine what the comics would have looked like had this project gone through. :( At least there is this one! It's also HUGE! It measures about 18" x 24" on board. |
Bernie Wrightson | Somebody Please Stop Me! | The closest thing I'll ever have to "Mementoes". This is one of the best pieces Wrightson has ever done, and one of my favorite pieces of art, ever! This piece defines the meaning of "HORROR" in every sense of the word. Looking at this poster sized piece on the wall, it's almost terrifying. Several people I've shown it to have actually been scared from looking at it. Now THAT'S what i'm talking about! |
Bernie Wrightson | Apparitions Portfolio Painting | "You're New Around Here, Aren't you?" There is no question that this is one of the single finest pieces Bernie ever did. Not only for it's impeccable linework, but also for Bernie's rarely used and beautifully done watercolor painting. It took nearly 15 years to get this piece, and i'm very happy to call it MINE! |
Bernie Wrightson | EA Poe's BLACK CAT pg | This has to be one of the most memorable pages from all of Bernie's art for Warren. It would be hard to imagine this scene being depicted any better or by anyone but Bernie. |
Bernie Wrightson | EA Poe Portfolio Painting | "The Cask of Amontillado". This was one of those pieces that I always wondered how good it really looked in person since both the reproduction in A Look Back, and in the portfolio itself are not great. Let me tell you, this painting SMOKES! Bernie's work in oils back in the 70's is quite sparce; I sure wish he had done more. |

Vaughn Bode - Bernie Wrightson | "The Monster's Thing" | The peak of Bode's career was realized with his 4 collaborations on Purple Pictography with Wrightson. With the subject being about Frankenstein, Vaughn seemingly wrote the piece specifically for Bernie to paint. This 3 page Masterpiece by 2 of my absolute favorite artists is something I would have only dreamt about when I started collecting. |
